City of Highland Urges Electric Conservation

City of Highland Urges Electric Conservation

MISO, the regional electric grid operator has called on area customers, including those served by the City of Highland, to reduce electric usage from now until Sunday evening, January 25, 2026.  Please do your part by taking the following conservation measures:

  • For electric-heated buildings, decrease heat setting by two degrees or more.
  • Set residential thermostats to 68 degrees, this small amount makes a large difference on the overall demand.
  • Reduce “ghost” electric use by unplugging items not in use (e.g. coffee makers, appliances, and chargers).
  • Use minimal lighting.
  • Avoid using major appliances.

Highland, and our other IMEA communities, are currently operating our local emergency generation both to stabilize prices for our IMEA customers, and to also support the MISO operations and the stability of our regional grid.

Thank you, stay safe and stay warm!
