Holiday Safety Measures

Dec. 3rd, 2021

‘Tis the Season!

As we enter the holiday season, I wanted to take a moment to remind you all of a few safety measures.  Unfortunately, this time of the year has notoriously been a time for people of all ages to fall victim to criminals.  Thefts, burglaries, robberies, and scams tend to occur more frequently as we get closer to Christmas.  For that reason, the Highland Police Department would like to provide you with some tips to keep you and your property safe.

  • Lock your doors. Your home and vehicles are places for criminals to come do their Christmas shopping.  Don’t give them a reason to target you.  Make sure you are placing items of value in your trunk or out of the view of anyone walking by.  Be aware of boxes you put out for trash service.  You are advertising all the wonderful things you purchased for your family.
  • Be careful when out and about this holiday season. Make sure you remain aware of your surroundings so you don’t look like an easy target. Keep your eyes up and not looking down at your cell phones.  It is also recommended that if you are heading to your car, have your keys in hand.
  • Be aware of scams. If you receive telephone calls asking for personal or financial information, DO NOT PROVIDE IT!  Sweepstakes or lottery companies will NEVER ask you to front money or personal finance information in order to receive a bigger prize.  Be aware.  If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

As always, we at the Highland Police Department are here for you.  Our community is one of the best around but, we as citizens still need to be aware of potential dangers in and out of town.

If you experience anything suspicious, please call us at 618-654-2131.

Have a good weekend!
