Water Reclamation Facility Operator

Summary:

Performs wastewater treatment operations and maintenance tasks at the Water Reclamation Facility. Duties include performing wastewater analysis, performing plant operations and maintaining equipment/grounds, mixing and applying chemicals, adhering to regulatory guidelines, and performing preventive maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs industrial sampling and wastewater analyses in testing influent, effluent, and solids; adjusts valves, monitors pumps flows, and tank liquid levels; records/calculate meter readings for weekly reports; compiles data to chart trends for process control; mixes lab chemicals for lab analysis; adjusts and calibrates lab instruments; performs chemical studies on plant processes.
  • Monitors plant and equipment performance and wastewater indicators to maintain proper operating levels. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on bar screens, pumps, gear reducers, valves, electrical components/motors, vehicles, tools, and other plant equipment and facilities; adjusts and repairs plant equipment; performs corrosion control, general cleaning, and maintenance on building and grounds including cutting grass and painting. Researches operational improvements for increased operational efficiencies and safety.
  • Transports waste sludge to storage tanks, drying beds, and tank trucks for land applications; cleans sludge from drying beds and loads truck for land applications, applies/levels sand to beds before releasing liquid sludge; loads tank truck with liquid sludge for land application/injection.
  • Operates and maintains various plant equipment and tools: tandem dump truck, land application vehicle, end loader, bobcat, chemical equipment, lawnmowers, welders, computer and lab equipment, etc.
  • Assists Supervisor with plant management. Assumes duties and responsibilities in event of supervisor's absence. Coordinates plant activities; supervises and trains seasonal workers; consults with other public works divisions, Director, and engineers.
  • Performs other duties and functions as required or assigned within area of expertise or scope of the position.

Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must have a H.S. diploma or equivalent with additional training in wastewater treatment operations. One Year of related work experience is a plus. Possess a Class IV Illinois Wastewater Operators Certificate or the ability to obtain one within 1 year. Knowledge and comprehension of wastewater treatment operations and standards. Ability to operate communications equipment; ability to perform wastewater testing procedures; ability to perform adjustments, maintenance and repairs on plant facilities and equipment. Must be able to operate SCADA, pickup truck, various hand tools, a computer daily, a drill, a riding mower, and string trimmer weekly.
