Mosquito and Weed Control

The city of Highland uses chemicals for mosquito and weed control throughout the city. Our pesticides and herbicides are applied by licensed city personnel. The following is being provided for your information.

Location:  Spraying for mosquitos is done during the spring and summer months in the evenings from roughly 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  The City uses the “fogging" (adulticiding) method of abatement, which is done over two consecutive nights on a bi-weekly basis to cover the entire city until nighttime temperatures go below 60 degrees.  This “fogging” method is what most people are familiar with seeing and is the most effective treatment.

Spraying for weed control is ongoing from spring through the fall. The locations are mostly limited to rights-of-way that have guardrails and/or rip rap.
