John Hipskind

John’s connection to Highland began over a decade ago when he met his future wife, Wendy Winet. When the time came for John and Wendy to choose where to raise their family, they prioritized finding a safe, friendly community with a state-leading school system, and the decision was an easy one to make.

John was quick to fall in love with Highland. It was this love for Highland, his family, and public service that led to him run for City Council. As a council member, John prioritizes Highland’s future while being a watchdog for Highland taxpayers. As a small business owner, John is a fierce advocate for fiscal johnhipresponsibility and governmental transparency. John furthers these causes by engaging with the community. John regularly hosts “Coffee with Your Councilman” at Michael’s where Highland residents are invited to come voice their opinions and concerns.

John can also be found at the Korte Rec Center coaching his daughters’ sports teams, watching them dance at IMOVE, or with Wendy and the girls at one of Highland’s festivals.

John is a graduate of SIUE with both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration., and he holds a Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University. As a practicing attorney, John has represented clients ranging from individuals to Fortune 500 companies, to numerous municipalities throughout Southern and Central Illinois. This, along with John’s experience as a business owner gives him a unique perspective that he uses to advocate for the citizens of Highland.

In addition to his City Council duties, John is a managing partner of a growing law firm, Hipskind & McAninch, with offices in Belleville, St. Louis, and a new location in Highland.
